About Us
We, Brett & Emily Mathews, are Dividing Ridge Farm. Brett retired from the Army after 20 years and moved his family back to Liberty, Illinois, where his farm has been in the family since 1858. All of our products are raised by regenerative methods, meaning everything we do is designed to not only feed us, but feed the soil & ecology as well. We raise 100% grass-fed (no feed but fresh pasture forage and hay) lamb with rotational grazing practices. Following the sheep, we free range our layer hens to not only produce eggs, but to sanitize the pasture and glean leftover forage. Our layer hens eat insects, forage, worms and non-GMO feed. We also grow pasture finished broiler (meat) chickens and rabbits. The chickens have the same diet as our layer hens. Our pastured rabbits eat pasture forage and a ration of sunflowers, wheat, and rabbit feed. We also occasionally raised a batch of pastured pork. These pigs are not the standard "dirt hogs." We move them to fresh pasture every few days to give them fresh forage and clean ground to live on. They are fed a "standard" conventional grain ration to supplement their forage since we have been unable to locate a reliable non-GMO hog feed source. Being on pasture gives all of our meat a wonderful flavor profile and is an excellent source of Omega-3 fatty acids and CLA's (conjugated linoleic acids). We have a semi-open door policy, by appointment only and we welcome anyone to come visit to witness how their food is raised.
